Selling mattresses must be tough. Mattresses all look alike. So, stores that sell mattresses usually ask customers to "lie down and take it for a sleep." Then, you realize that mattresses don't just look the same but they also feel the same. This is why most mattress stores are in rundown neighborhoods. They need a gigantic store to showcase all of their mattresses!
Forget the great store location. Forget carpeting the show room. Try out the mattress and you'll love it. And, just in case you don't feel anything noticeably different from one unit to another, they'll pepper the show floor with some mattresses discounted at 25% so that your attention flies to the mattresses marked down 90%! Would you rather buy a $1,000 mattress for $750 OR steal the $10,500 mattress (with remote control) for $1,050? Remote control$#@!?
Then, I saw THIS total cost of ownership ploy. I'm glad someone is trying something other than the good ole markup routine.
As for me, I'm not at all convinced that the quality of a mattress has anything to do with good or bad sleep. Many Koreans and Japanese people still sleep on floors and they sleep just fine. Japanese people even outlive all others. My wife and I bought a really expensive mattress a couple years ago. It's no better than the cheap stuff. In fact, I hate it. I hate it so much that I sleep next to the bed on the floor sometimes.
Someone should bundle some anti-stress medication with the mattress since stress is what keeps us up at night. And, yes, we're looking for a new mattress ...
